Making rugs – how to

An alternative to the row of sloping stitches is to work a single cross stitch exactly across the corner point and in order to hold it in position to pierce the first half of it with the needle when working the second half.

Both starting and finishing tails of the wool used for this special corner cross stitch must of course be firmly secured in some suitable manner.

When the corner is being finally oversewn it will be found that the presence of a special corner stitch provided by either of the above ways is surprisingly helpful.

The paint, of course, merely camouflages any small bit of the canvas point that insists on showing itself despite all efforts.
