Make rug edges
Another method of making a strong wide edge with jute is to machine it several times along its rough edge and then, instead of turning it over, to work the plait stitch twice directly over this cut edge, first over 2 threads and then over 4, so that the deep plait covers the narrow one.
With this method the needle is passed between every thread of the canvas instead of between every two threads.
It is, of course, most essential that all 4 threads of the canvas should be well caught in the machining, especially the first two. A single length of 2-ply thrums is recommended for this edge.
