How to make rugs

In the case when the plait starts down the selvedge edge the latter should be doubled back underneath the canvas to half its width throughout its length so that the plaits along the ends and sides of the work come out about the same width.
With a pile rug this turn-back is on the opposite side of the canvas to the turn-overs of the cut ends. If a slightly wider edge is preferred, the plait can be worked over a complete hole of the canvas (which includes two bars instead of just the end ) and when the selvedge is reached this is not doubled back and the whole width of it is covered so that again the top and bottom and side edges will match in width.
