For rug makers
The majority of experienced rug makers consider that the foregoing method of dealing with the edge is the best, whatever type of canvas is used, but when using single mesh jute the following are possible alternatives to the plaited edging stitch:
-
Double crochet
-
Blanket stitch.
-
Twisted cable stitch.
The working methods for all these can be found in Mary Thomas's Dictionary of Embroidery Stitches. With any of them the stitches should be worked between every thread of the canvas and about 3 or 4 threads deep.
